Internal audit

We conduct independent internal audits to benchmark your RTO’s performance against its own compliance management practices, the VET Quality Framework and the Standards for RTOs 2025. This is sometimes called a compliance health check.

Scope

Each audit is scoped with you. A typical scope covers:

  • the Standards for RTOs 2025, including the Outcome Standards and Compliance Requirements
  • a sample of qualifications and units of competency, with the training and assessment materials for each unit
  • a sample of student records for each qualification
  • qualifications, records of results and statements of attainment issued
  • trainer and assessor credentials

Work is carried out on site, off site or both. Most audits take between two and five days.

Deliverables

  • A risk-based audit report, with the evidence sighted, our rationale and a strategy to address each finding
  • A debriefing session with your staff

Follow-up audits

A follow-up desk audit reviews the actions you have taken and the evidence for them. We then update the audit report to show your current position.

Business process audits

We also audit end-to-end business processes, such as eligibility, enrolment, training plans, delivery, reporting and record keeping, against your own policies and procedures and the relevant Standards or funding contract requirements. These audits identify good practice as well as risk.

Questions

How long does an audit take?

Most audits take between two and five days, depending on the number of qualifications, units and student records sampled. The scope and cost are agreed before work starts.

Can the audit be done remotely?

Yes. Desk audits and virtual audits are available. Many audits combine an off-site review of evidence with a shorter site visit.

How often should we have an audit?

Many of our clients have an audit each year, and again when they add qualifications or change how they deliver training.
